Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (Sept. 24, 2019) – Mason Daniel made the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series dash for the first time in his career before he picked up a career-best World of Outlaws result last Friday during his debut at Dodge City Raceway Park.
Daniel qualified fifth quickest to open the night before a runner-up result in a heat race earned a spot into the dash. A sixth-place result in the dash gave Daniel the sixth starting position for the main event.
“I think we had a lot of speed,” he said. “I enjoy that track and I think it’s a great facility. Our first night there I felt comfortable off the bat. We were fifth in qualifying and just a bit off quick time, which is an improvement for where we’ve been at with the Outlaws. I made my first dash and we were having our best night with the Outlaws so that was exciting. The car felt great and the track was nice.
“On the warm-up lap before the start of the main event a car checked up in front of me. I wasn’t looking far enough ahead I guess. I got on the brakes and ended up looping it. That put me to the tail of the field. We were able to get up to a top 15. I would have liked to have that starting position of sixth we would have had, but I was pleased we were able to drive from the back to 15th.”
The 15th-place finish was his top result with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt.’
Daniel aimed for more on Saturday when he returned to the track, where he qualified 11th quickest and started a heat race on the outside of the second row.
“The second night was going well,” he said. “I didn’t have a chance to demonstrate any of that as we were involved in an incident on the first lap of the heat that destroyed our car. We weren’t able to finish the night and will have to rebuild a car this week.
“We were having a good run with the Outlaws. It’s important. Our 410 program is starting to come around. If we can qualify well it really means a lot. I think we have nine races left in the season so I’m excited to finish those out with the Outlaws.”
Daniel plans on making his debut at three more tracks this week. He’ll compete on Wednesday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., with the World of Outlaws; on Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions; and on Sunday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., with the FAST Series.
“It’s like at Dodge City where we are racing the best guys in the nation and I haven’t been to that track,” he said. “It’s all about getting comfortable as soon as I can. I have to figure out what works for me and translate that into speed.”
