Sides Hustles to New Track Record and Best Result of Season During Jason Johnson Classic

Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Oct. 22, 2019) – Jason Sides produced his best outing of the season on Saturday during the inaugural Jason Johnson Classic presented by FK Rod Ends.

Sides kicked off the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at Lake Ozark Speedway by setting quick time during qualifying. He did so in impressive fashion by establishing a new track record as well.

“When we hot lapped the car felt so good,” he said. “It was easy to drive and rolled right around there.”

Sides then won both a heat race and the dash – his first of the season – from the pole position to garner the pole for the 41-lap main event.

“Everything was falling in place and going our way,” he said.

Sides led the first seven laps – his first laps led this season – before entering traffic. He lost two positions in one turn when he got trapped behind a slower car. Sides maintained third for awhile before dropping two more positions on a restart. He ended with a sixth-place result, which marked his best finish of the year and fifth top 10 during World of Outlaws action.

“It was pretty good all night until the feature,” he said. “I believe that is due to not running up front. You forget how fast you come up on lapped traffic. I wasn’t really sure how close (David) Gravel and Sheldon (Haudenschild) were to me, but when I got to lapped cars they went right underneath me. I must have slowed up too much for a lapped car. Just not being in that position lately got me.

“It would have been nice to have a top five, which would be like a win for us. Sixth is still a good run.”

The strong outing came on the heels of a 16th-place run the previous night at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.

“I started pretty decent and we got going,” he said. “I felt pretty good and got a couple of spots on the bottom. That went away. It was so far around the top and the cushion was 10 or 12 inches from the wall. That’s not my style. I’d tip toe to it and I think I got the tires hot. I wasn’t very good throughout the second half of that feature and got to spinning the tires and we lost spots.”

Sides heads to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., this Friday and Saturday for the Nittany Showdown with the World of Outlaws.

“Last year we started 10th and went into the first corner and I was too tight on the right front,” he said. “We fell to 24th and got back to 10th. If we could get a pair of top 10s I think we’d be happy with the weekend.”
