Daniel Wraps Up Season With Strong Outing During Jason Johnson Classic

Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Oct. 23, 2019) – Mason Daniel tied his third-best result during World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition last Saturday when he made his final start of the season.

Daniel drastically increased the number of 410ci winged sprint car starts this year and he wrapped up his 2019 campaign by tackling the final two Midwest races of the season on the Outlaws schedule.

The action began on Friday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown. Daniel qualified 25th quickest, placed seventh in a heat race and ended fifth in the Last Chance Showdown – only one position out of making the A Main.

“I think we were lacking some stuff at Lakeside and I messed up and had some contact at the start of the B Main,” he said. “Another driver and I made contact coming out of turn two and I lost two spots. We had to make our way back forward and missed a transfer by one.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway during the Jason Johnson Classic presented by FK Rod Ends. Daniel qualified 20th quickest before he finished seventh in a heat race and third in the Last Chance Showdown to garner a transfer into the back of the A Main. He capped the night by gaining a trio of positions to finish 18th – tied for his third-best run ever with the series.

“We went out early and the track widened up a bit during qualifying,” he said. “If we wouldn’t have gone out as early we’d have had a better time. Three tenths of a second would have put us in the top 10. It had rained all day so there was no passing in the heats. It widened out in the B Main and in the A Main it was racy.

“That was our best run at a small track we’ve had this year. I feel like we’re getting our short-track program where it needs to be. We definitely made a progression how the car is and me driving-wise. It was cool to make the Jason Johnson Classic and move forward. It was a good way to end the season.”

Oct. 19 – Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. – Qualifying: 20; Heat race: 7 (7); B Main: 3 (2); Feature: 18 (21).
