Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 11, 2019) – Sammy Swindell moved forward during every race he entered last weekend at the Can-Am World Finals, which was his final sprint car event of the year.

Swindell made his debut in the Trey Hoddick owned No. 1 during the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, where the team timed in 20th quickest for Friday’s program and 17th quickest for Saturday’s program on Thursday.

“I guess it was okay for the circumstances,” Swindell said. “Once we qualified that was our weekend. I think we could have had it just a bit better on the race car and got the motor tuned up. It’s just some little details. All we got was three or four hot laps and then we had to qualify. We had some new bars in that had some sort of wind up on them so we couldn’t tell a whole lot from hot laps. We knew from the first round (of qualifying) we were off a little. We tried to get it a little better for the second round. We needed one more round. A tenth would have moved us up a long way. Just being off that little bit wasn’t bad for a new car, new people, a whole new thing.

“A lot people don’t understand, ‘You should just jump in the car and go.’ When you’re looking at a tenth of a second it’s hard to find a sweet spot before you unload the car. We made some changes after the second round and went a little different on the tune-up and in the heat race on Friday it was better. We made some gains every time.”

Swindell maneuvered from seventh to fourth place in a heat race and from fifth to fourth place in the C Main on Friday. He advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race and from 16th to 11th in the Last Chance Showdown on Saturday.

“I think we did good,” he said. “It’s a different kind of car than I’ve driven. We didn’t really have any problems. The three days went along really easy and every time we improved, but for that format that’s not good enough. It’s all about the first day of qualifying.”

Next up, Swindell is scheduled to pilot his midget Dec. 19-21 at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Mo., during the Arizona Sport Shirts Gateway Dirt Nationals Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts.
