Starks Tests New Car Configuration During World Finals

Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 13, 2019) – A new car didn’t pan out the way Trey Starks hoped last weekend during the Can-Am World Finals.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver uncharacteristically struggled at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, which hosted the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event. It began on Thursday when the more than 50 drivers qualified for the Friday and Saturday programs.

“Nothing clicked like it had all year,” he said. “It was a different car design. That’s the first time we’ve done something different in three years. We tested it once before Charlotte and learned some things. We want it to be something we’ll transition into. With it being the last race of the year and with qualifying for the Friday and Saturday shows on Thursday it makes it a tough weekend if you don’t qualify well.”

Starks timed in 23rd quickest in his group for Friday’s event and 24th quickest in his group for Saturday’s race. He finished eighth in a heat race each night, which relegated him to the C Main. Starks advanced from 11th to seventh in the C Main on Friday and from ninth to fourth on Saturday.

“We got a little better, but not good enough to make a difference,” he said. “It gives us a different way of looking at things and may help us open our eyes for a few things about the previous car we were running. It’s something we want to work with to make it more adaptable going to different places. We’re going to evaluate it and see how we want to move forward.”
