Gravel Enjoys Wild Weekend On and Off Track

Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (April 19, 2022) – Joy away from the track has Big Game Motorsports driver David Gravel all smiles this week.

Gravel and his wife, Jillian, recently announced they are expecting a baby boy in October.

“Me and Jill have been together for a long time,” he said. “We’ve always wanted to start a family and thought this was the right time. We’re very excited to be future parents.”

The news released on Easter Day capped a wild weekend for Gravel. Friday’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 was rained out, leaving Saturday’s show as the only race for the doubleheader.

“It wasn’t ideal conditions,” Gravel said. “The track was tricky to qualify on and we stubbed our foot a little. We battled as hard as we could in the heat race, but we were only able to get to fifth and had to start deep in the feature.”

Gravel, who qualified 21st quickest and advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race, lined up on the inside of the ninth row for the main event.

“I knew it’d be a very interesting A Main with a lot of stuff happening,” he said. “I had the mindset we could make stuff happen as long as our car was decent and we stayed out of trouble. We came out of it with a decent finish.”

Gravel methodically maneuvered toward the top five before settling for a seventh-place finish. He earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“I was as aggressive as I was comfortable being,” he said. “We passed some people who weren’t as aggressive. After settling into a pretty good spot I didn’t want to take any additional risks and blow everything we had gained. We’ve had some races this year with some bad finishes and I didn’t want another bad one.”

Next up for Big Game Motorsports will be World of Outlaws races this Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

“I only have one start at Tri-City Speedway during an ASCS race back in like 2010,” he said. “We came through a B Main and up to around 12th in the feature.”

Gravel is a two-time World of Outlaws winner at Tri-State Speedway, scoring triumphs in 2016 and 2018.

“It’s a track I’m comfortable at and have a lot of experience at,” he said. “I think we were mediocre there last year so hopefully we can be stronger this weekend.”
