Inside Line Promotions – LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (June 1, 2022) – David Gravel posted a pair of top 10s last weekend during World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition.

The Big Game Motorsports driver finished seventh on Saturday at Atomic Speedway before advancing to a fourth-place result on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway. The two top 10s give Gravel 19 during World of Outlaws action this season, which is the second most of any driver. His 12 top fives is tied for second.

Memorial Day Weekend began on Saturday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, where Gravel timed in fifth quickest in his group. He then finished where he started – third – in a heat race to lock into the 10th starting position in the A Main.

“I could have been a little more aggressive in qualifying and committed to the top in turns three and four,” he said. “We also tried a new muffler that didn’t work out as well so I think with that and if a couple of decisions on my part were different we’d have been better in qualifying. That put us starting third in our heat race. I wasn’t too great, but the second-place guy blew a tire. I had a shot to make the dash and didn’t get the job done. I should have committed to the outside instead of sliding him and we ended up third.

“The car fired off really good on the initial start of the feature and I was able to get to sixth. As the laps went on we faded and the car lost the handling. We fell back one spot to seventh. Maybe if we had 10 restarts we could have battled up for a shot at a podium, but the long runs hurt us.”

The team returned to action on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where Gravel qualified third quickest in his group. A heat race victory advanced Gravel into the dash, but he drew a starting spot in the final row for the fifth straight time. A seventh-place result in the dash started the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 on the inside of the fourth row in the main event.

“We had a couple of lucky breaks with two guys dropping out, but I felt we had a competitive race car and were just as fast as everybody,” Gravel said. “That was a good feeling. At one point I was side by side with Sheldon (Haudenschild) and the caution came out. He was able to have the outside on the restart and he ends up winning the race. If I had nosed him out by a couple of inches that could have been me. Later in the race I tried to pass Logan (Schuchart) for second and that cost me with (Kyle) Larson passing me. We fought and battled. After the A Main we were happy with the speed and race car we had.”

Gravel invades the Dakotas this weekend with races on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., during the 1st Leg of the Northern Tour and Sunday at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., during the Ace Ready Mix and Myrl & Roy’s presents the World of Outlaws.

“River Cities is a place I’ve been pretty solid at and I’ve been able to win there one time,” he said. “I feel we have a good handle on the place. They pack the stands and the fans are very cool. And with everything that’s happened with the bad storm at Huset’s, it’s admirable for them to keep going with the event. We had good success at Huset’s last year. Hopefully we can have a good showing at a home track of ours and we can make the boss happy.”
