Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Record Two Top Fives at Atomic and Top 10 at Lawrenceburg

Inside Line Promotions – LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 30, 2023) – David Gravel posted a pair of top-five runs last weekend at Atomic Speedway before earning a top-10 result at Lawrenceburg Speedway on Monday.

The solid Memorial Day Weekend brought the Big Game Motorsports driver to within eight points of the lead in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship standings.

A doubleheader at Atomic Speedway in Waverly, Ohio, began on Friday with Gravel setting quick time during qualifying. He then won a heat race and finished where he started – fourth – in the dash to line up on the outside of the second row in the main event.

“It was good to go quick time and start off the night well,” he said. “We won the heat race and had a decent dash draw. In the A Main we were okay. We were hovering around fourth and fell back to sixth. We had a good restart to get back to fourth. We knew we needed to work on the car for the next day, but we were content running fourth given the gains we knew we could make on the car.”

The fourth-place finish was Gravel’s 18th top five of the season.

The team returned to the high-banked track on Saturday. Gravel timed in third quickest despite being one of the final drivers to hit the track.

“We drew a late pill again,” he said. “I thought we had an amazing effort with the track slowing down. Then we heat raced okay. We struggled with the car all weekend in race trim. In the feature our car was okay, but once the rubber came in our car came alive. With the track having grip we were as good as anybody.”

Gravel hustled to a runner-up result.

Lawrenceburg Speedway hosted a show on Monday evening. Gravel qualified 11th quickest and placed fourth in a heat race before he gained a trio of positions in the feature to end eighth.

“A bad pill draw bit us in the butt for qualifying,” he said. “We had a couple of decent starts in the heat race, but they got called back. Our last start was our worst start of the heat race and we ran fourth. The track was hammer down around the top and throw bomb sliders. I knew a lot of bad could happen. I was in the mindset to try to get a top-10 finish and move onto the next race and we were able to do that.”

Races this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., during the Gerdau Presents the 1st Leg of the Northern Tour and Saturday at Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minn., during the World of Outlaws Big ‘O’ Showdown are next for the team.

“River Cities is a solid track for me,” he said. “It just a unique place. It’s very fast and changes a lot. It’s definitely an action-paced track. We always like going there.”

Saturday will mark Gravel’s debut at Ogilvie Raceway.
