Inside Line Promotions – WEST FARGO, N.D. (Aug. 28, 2023) – Big Game Motorsports rebounded last Saturday during the Gerdau Presents the Duel in the Dakotas hosted by Red River Valley Speedway.

David Gravel set quick time during qualifying before placing second in a heat race, the dash and the main event to halt a four-race streak of finishing outside the top 10 with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

“It felt good to get a podium,” he said. “We went out late and qualified good so that was a good effort. The heat race went okay and we were too free in the dash. We knew we could get the car better for the feature. We had a great car. We had a mechanical issue of some sort around Lap 10 or Lap 12 we’re trying to dissect and that hindered my chance at competing for the win.”

The second-place result was Gravel’s 40th top five of the season.

The weekend began on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. Gravel timed in 14th quickest to open the Gerdau Presents the 2nd Leg of the Northern Tour.

“We were just off in qualifying,” he said. “The car rolled around there pretty good, but we had the wrong gear in the car. We started fourth in the heat race and were able to get to third, which I thought was pretty good for how the track was. Starting 10th in the feature wasn’t bad.

“We battled a tight race car and couldn’t run in the fast part of the track. We had to run low and when I did try to make passes it cost me positions. It was disappointing, but it was an uncharacteristic track. Also, something has seemed to change the last couple of weeks and we think it’s the tires. The boys got to work on Friday night to change the car around for Saturday and it helped.”

Gravel was credited with an 11th-place finish.

Next up is a trip to the Pacific Northwest for races this Thursday through Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., during the $26,000-to-win Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals and Monday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.

“I’m excited to go back to Skagit being the defending winner of the event,” he said. “I like that area and it’s cool to race there three days in a row. We’re confident that we can have a good race car and hopefully take that big money on Saturday again.”
