Balog Sweeps the Kenosha County Fair

34 Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association (IRA) Outlaw Sprint teams signed in to compete on night two of the Roger Iles tribute weekend at the Kenosha County Fair. Osborn and Son Trucking Qualifying saw Bill Balog set quick time for the 6th consecutive IRA event. For the 2nd night in a row Scotty Thiel would qualify in 2nd followed by 2006 IRA rookie of the year Mike Kertscher. Kokomo, Indiana’s Parker Price-Miller would end up 4th quick and Ben Schmidt was 5th.

Weld Wheels Heat Race 1 saw Phillip Mock and Matt Vandervere battle early for the lead. As the race drew to a close Bill Balog had worked his 17b around Vandervere and into 2nd place as the caution flag flew. On the restart Balog battled side by side with Mock for the last 2 laps. As the checkered flag fell Balog was victorious over Mock and newly crowned 2017 Wilmot Raceway Champion Matt Vandervere. Kris Spitz would bring his 4K home in 4th over Wayne Modjeski.

Allstar Performance Heat Race 2 saw Scott Uttech utilize his pole starting position to take the lead and eventually the checkered flag. Behind Uttech defending IRA champion Jeremy Schultz fended off challenges from Scotty Thiel to eventually claim 2nd place. Thiel would settle for 3rd over Joe B Miller, Blake Nimee would claim 5th.

Much like heat 2, DMI Racing Heat Race 3 would be won by the pole sitter, this time being Bill Wirth. Jordan Goldesberry would bring his Rock Solid Lawn Care 65 machine home in 2nd over Jake Blackhurst and Kyle Marten. Mike Kertscher would bring his Hopf Farms backed 80k car across in 5th.

R&H Enterprises Heat Race 4 would see 2 time IRA champion Scotty Neitzel charge from 3rd place to claim the win over former Wilmot track champion Todd Daun. Parker Price-Miller would finish in the 3rd spot ahead of Raymond Hensley and Dave Uttech.

Behling Racing Equipment B Main was won by the Oz Motorsports 73 piloted by Ben Schmidt. Jereme Schroeder would cross in 2nd ahead of Mike Decker. “The Bluegrass Bandit” Dennis Spitz would finish in 4th and Andy Rein would come home 5th in his Cab Construction 7R.

A Main action saw Jake Blackhurst take the early lead over Jeremy Schultz and Phillip Mock. Bill Balog quickly moved his way into 2nd position and set his sights on Hanna City Illinois’ Jake Blackhurst. The 17b trailed the 25 until Blackhurst bounced off the treacherous cushion and gave Balog the opening he needed to take the lead. Once his Rhine Auto Machine was out front Balog never looked back, claiming the win on Night 2 of the Roger Iles tribute weekend, and for the 2nd time in his career sweeping both nights of the Kenosha County Fair. Mike Kertscher would use a late race caution to get past Jeremy Schultz for 2nd but could not run Balog down. Schultz settled for 3rd. Scotty Thiel would bring his Professional Plating machine across the line in 4th followed by Joe B Miller in 5th.

The IRA would like to thank our loyal sponsors, Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, Osborn and Son Trucking, TW Metals, Carriage Auto Body, Cummins Onan, Hopf Farms, Hagar’s Half Pound Cookies and Hoosier Tire.
