(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 17, 2018 – While much of the attention at this Saturday’s All Stars vs. Interstate Racing Association (IRA) Sprint Car Showdown at The Plymouth Dirt Track is sure to be on NASCAR legend Tony Stewart of Columbus, Ind. and a talented roster of national touring All Star drivers, IRA points leader Scotty Thiel of Sheboygan should not be overlooked as he enters the marquee event riding the wave of several strong early-season performances.

Thiel, who began his career as a regular weekly competitor in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car division, currently stands atop the IRA point standings with a second and fifth-place showing to his credit in the first two races of the year at Wilmot Raceway and Beaver Dam Raceway.

“The season has been good so far,” Thiel said. “I feel our first two IRA shows started off excellent, but I have some work to do in the main events. I left one out at Wilmot I feel, but second isn't bad. Our main focus this year is to run for the IRA championship.”

Thiel opened his 2018 campaign in spectacular fashion by pulling off a late pass on Stewart to win a Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) Sprint Car A-main event at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill on April 20.

“The MOWA victory felt great,” Thiel said. “To come out of the box with a win and start the season on a high note was a great feeling. My team worked hard over the winter to get us more prepared than ever.

“Racing with Tony [Stewart] is always great and it’s awesome for the fans,” he said. “You just can’t let a big-named person intimidate you. I just tried to keep my focus all night and race hard. He ran a great race. I was able to capitalize on a second restart attempt. I learned from the first restart what he was going to do and took advantage of a little mistake.”

Stewart will be making his first appearance at Plymouth since capturing an IRA A-main victory on June 15, 2013, following a thrilling duel with eight-time IRA champion Bill Balog of Hartland.

In addition to Stewart, Thiel is relishing the challenge of squaring off against a strong contingent of All Star regulars, including points leader Aaron Reutzel of Clute, Texas, Jac Haudenschild of Wooster, Ohio, six-time and defending All Star Series champion Chad Kemenah of Findlay, Ohio, Parker Price-Miller of Kokomo, Ind., former World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion and NASCAR Cup competitor Dave Blaney of High Point, N.C. and Carson Macedo of Lemoore, Calif., as well as versatile open-wheel standout, former NASCAR Truck Series regular and Chili Bowl champion Rico Abreu of St. Helena, Calif., on his home turf.

“Having a big race like the All Stars so close to home at basically a hometown track for me gets me pumped up for sure,” Thiel said. “We treat it as we would any other race, but then again it’s a bigger payday, bigger crowd, bigger field of cars that makes for a great event. I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully, with a little good luck we can run well and compete for the win.”

The event marks the first time the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series has visited the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth since Aug. 2, 1995 when Kevin Huntley of Bloomington, Ind. captured the A-main victory.

The PDTR 360 Sprint Cars will also be on the card this Saturday, May 19.

The pit gates open at 2 p.m. and spectator gates open at 3 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and All Star-IRA Sprint Car qualifying to follow.

The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds is located at 229 Fairview Drive in Plymouth, Wis. For more information, visit www.plymouthdtr.com or check out Plymouth Dirt Track Racing on Facebook.
