Blaney Maintains All Star Championship Advantage Following Bumpy Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 8, 2015) – Perspective is key for Dale Blaney following one of the bumpiest weekends of his season.
Blaney guided the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team to a pair of top fives and a Hard Charger Award during a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions tripleheader, in which Blaney escaped with only a two-point hit in the points. He now leads the championship standings by 211 points with seven races remaining.
“That was a pretty brutal weekend, but it could have been a lot worse,” he said.
Blaney kicked off the weekend on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, where he qualified 14th overall – second best in his group – before finishing third in a heat race. That missed a spot in the dash by only one position and lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.
“I wasn’t very good the first half of the race,” he said. “We just struggled and it finally came in. I felt like we got rolling pretty good the last 15 laps and salvaged something out of it. Any time you can run in the top five from 13th it’s a good night, especially with it only being 30 laps.”
Blaney rallied to post a fifth-place finish. However, the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored team struggled again at the high-banked track on Saturday.
“Saturday was a struggle,” he said. “It was a product of being in a tough group and we were the last car to time in that heat race. When you’re the last couple cars of your set and the track slows down you’re at a little disadvantage. Sometimes the (All Star) format fits you pretty good and sometimes it doesn’t.”
Blaney timed in 16th during qualifying, which ranked eighth in his group. He then finished seventh in a heat race to land in the B Main, where he held on for a sixth-place result to garner the final transfer into the feature.
“We changed the car around and probably made it worse for the B Main,” he said. “We barely made the race. We rushed to change it back a bit and made our way through there a little in the feature. We weren’t really good and we weren’t really bad. It was tough to pass and then the track laid rubber with about 15 laps to go.”
Blaney maneuvered from his 22nd starting position to end 12th, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
“Saturday night might have been the worst race we’ve ever had at Attica,” he said. “We got through it. We’ve been really good there and it’s one of our favorite tracks. Every now and then you’re the dog and we were that night.”
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Wayne County Speedway, where Blaney qualified 12th overall – third in his group – and placed second in a heat race to make the dash.
“We finally made the dash for the first time in about five races,” he said. “Our car was better. Before the racing began we changed four torsion bars and three shocks. We put some new stuff under it and it felt like our car again.”
Blaney finished second in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the front row. He maintained a podium position throughout the feature before scoring a runner-up result.
“The track was pretty choppy and rough,” he said. “It was getting rougher the longer the race went. We survived it. To get out of there with a second was a bonus. It gives us some momentum going into this weekend.”
The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed team returns to All Star competition this Friday and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., for the 48th annual Tuscarora 50.
