Blaney Caps Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal with Podium Finish

Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2015) – Dale Blaney capped the 48th annual Tuscarora 50 with a podium finish on Sunday at Port Royal Speedway.

It was a noticeable improvement for Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports team from Friday’s opening round of the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader.

“We got better, which is a good thing,” he said. “We weren’t really good at any point on Friday night. We were just a little off every time we went out from being a certain way to the exact opposite the next time. It was kind of a struggle. We didn’t have any speed and didn’t have any handle.”

Blaney qualified 13th quickest, which was second in his group. He then finished fourth in a heat race to lock himself into the 18th starting position for the main event. Blaney battled around 15th for most of the feature before ending with a 13th-place result.

The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed team returned to the half-mile oval on Sunday for the finale after Saturday was rained out.

“I didn’t qualify as well as I hoped, but we qualified good enough to put us on the front row of a heat,” he said.

Blaney timed in 12th quickest overall – third in his group – before he won a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the 50-lap feature.

“We worked our way up kind of slow,” he said. “I took my time maybe a little too much early. I felt like I got really good the last 10 laps of the first segment.”

Blaney was up to third by the midpoint of the feature and he maintained the podium position throughout the second segment.

“I wasn’t as good in turns three and four as I was hoping to be,” he said. “We ran well. There were just a couple of guys who ran better than us.”

Blaney holds a 207-point advantage in the All Star championship standings entering this weekend’s Jim Ford Classic on Friday and Saturday at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio.
