Inside Line Promotions – OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2016) – Caleb Helms had a good finish to his season opener last Friday at Bubba Raceway Park.

“It was a good night to knock the cobwebs off,” he said. “I definitely did a good job shaking them off when I hit that infield tire.”

Helms kicked off the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event by qualifying 13th quickest overall and sixth in his group. In his heat race Helms was running in a transfer position when contact with an infield tire in turn four knocked the front end out of his sprint car coming to the white flag.

“I wasn’t very comfortable and we were trying something different,” he said. “I was trying to hustle the car and I just took it in too narrow.”

That forced Helms to run the B Main, where a second-place finish earned him a transfer into the 18th starting position for the 30-lap main event.

“They worked the track and I didn’t see some marbles,” he said. “On the start I got up into the marbles and lost a few spots. The track came to us a little bit as the race went on. It started to lay some rubber and I was able to drive it into the corners deeper to find a groove where I was able to get around the middle to outside. I wish I would have found that quicker.”

Helms overcame the early miscue to rally for a 15th-place result.

Saturday’s event at Bubba Raceway Park was rained out.

Helms will return to action Feb. 18-20 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla., for the Ronald Laney Memorial.
