Inside Line Promotions – YORK HAVEN, Pa. (May 9, 2017) – Following a tripleheader two weeks ago with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions that had its ups and downs, including destroying a race car, Ryan Smith rebounded last Sunday with an eighth-place finish during the Kevin Gobrecht Classic at Susquehanna Speedway.

When racing in his home state of Pennsylvania, Smith normally competes in the No. 94 Leidig/Warko/Smith X-1 Race Car while piloting the No. 59 Maxim chassis in Ohio. However, Smith crashed the No. 94 hard at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., on April 30 and pulled the No. 59 machine out for the Kevin Gobrecht Classic.

“That’s the best part of this team,” he said. “We have a lot of resources available. Unfortunately, we struggled finding the balance in the No. 59 car on Sunday and we had some brake issues. We salvaged an eighth-place finish out of the night.”

Smith said the team will take the next week off while Ryan Linder builds them a new chassis.

“Tom (Leidig) is on board with our plan to get two identical cars,” Smith said. “We sold the one car so right now we don’t have a single race car in the shop. We are going to take our time and get everything ready … we have a lot of racing coming up.”

Smith plans to battle with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on May 17 for the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., before hitting the road west with the All Stars with events on May 19 at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind.; May 20 at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis.; and May 21 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.

Smith currently sits fourth in the All Star championship standings.

“I feel like we let a golden opportunity slip away a little with the All Stars during the Pennsylvania swing,” he said. “I got called for a jump at Williams Grove, which cost us a shot at making the dash and a possible top-five run. We got second at Port Royal and probably could have had a top 10 at Bedford before we crashed.

“The good news is everyone on this team is on the same page and we’re all working hard. I think we are on the edge of having a breakout and getting those wins.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Auto Electric of Jupiter, Fla.

“Auto Electric is Tom Leidig’s business,” Smith said. “It’s so great to have Tom being such a big part of this team. He brings a lot of fun to what we do. He has backed everything we have wanted to do and he deserves some success and we will work hard to get that. As a kid I watched his No. 59 car win races and it’s pretty cool to get the chance to drive it now.”
