Inside Line Promotions – CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (June 28, 2017) – The duo of Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston put together a great comeback story last week during the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek.

The Swindell Speed Lab backed team struggled on June 17 at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, where Bayston qualified seventh in his group, placed sixth in a heat race and ended 10th in the B Main.

Two nights later the results didn’t fare much better at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, where Bayston timed in ninth in his group, finished sixth in a heat race and crashed in the B Main.

“Qualifying put us behind and once you’re behind in that format it’s easy to stay behind,” Swindell said. “We killed that car in the B Main at Wayne County and had to put the spare car together to get back out there.”

The team returned to competition last Thursday at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio, where Bayston set quick time in his group. He then placed third in a heat race to lock into a dash. He pulled the No. 1 during the random redraw to start on the pole and capitalized. Bayston won the dash to line up on the pole for the main event.

“This car is a hair different, but not much,” Swindell said. “It was good right out of the box. That was the type of race track where he excels.”

Bayston led the distance of the race to record his second career sprint car victory and his first-ever Ohio Speedweek win.

“It was very validating,” he said. “All that hard work and late nights building that new car paid off. The whole night we were fast. Kevin had it dialed in. I think we could have drove to the front, but when I caught traffic our lap times were way slower. Something I’ve learned in the sprint car is clean air is so important and being out front is such an advantage so it was helpful that we drew so well.”

Speedweek concluded on Saturday at Atomic Speedway, where Bayston qualified third quickest in his group. He finished where he started – second – in both a heat race and a dash to line up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

Bayston took the lead on Lap 6 and held onto the top spot for half the race before being passed with only nine laps remaining.

“There are certain guys like Cole Duncan that are so good on the slick Ohio tracks,” he said. “On the longer runs I was really good, but not as much on shorter runs. On a restart Duncan showed his nose in the middle and drove right by me. He just got better at the end. We had an early red flag and we were spitting out oil. We were working on that rather than working on the car to get it a tick better and I think that could have hurt us at the end of the race.”

Bayston finished in the runner-up position, which marked his sixth top five of the season.

“We had smooth nights and made good decisions with the car and he put himself in the right places,” Swindell said. “I think that’s the true showing of what we’re able to do. We got ourselves down after the first two nights thinking we didn’t know what we were doing. The last two nights were like how we started the year.”

Swindell and Bayston are slated to return to action this Friday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.
