Inside Line Promotions – JOLIET, Ill. (July 1, 2019) – Kyle Schuett advanced to a top-15 finish during his debut with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions Saturday night at The Dirt Oval at Route 66.

“All in all, it wasn’t too bad for our first race with the All Stars,” he said of the race that was co-sanctioned with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series. “We were able to move up a few positions, even though I kind of played it safe and ran the bottom while the top was probably faster. I didn’t want to force anything, especially since it was my first race with them.”

Fortune was not on the sprint car rookie’s side at the beginning of the evening when he drew the last qualifying spot of the 32 cars for time trials.

“Obviously the track was a little slicker when we went out than when the first few cars timed so we didn’t feel too bad about timing 23rd out of 32 cars,” he said. “We were only about a tenth and a half behind the guy in 15th so it wasn’t bad for just our third time qualifying by time.”

Schuett lined up seventh in his heat race.

“When they threw the green flag everyone went right to the top,” he said. “I thought, ‘I have to go where they’re not.’ I was able to hook the bottom really good in turns one and two and drove up to fourth. I stayed there until Scotty Thiel got around me coming to the white flag. Given the experience of the guys I was racing against – like Cory Eliason, Bill Balog and Thiel – I was happy to finish fifth and transfer to the A Main.”

Schuett rolled off 19th in the 24-car main event.

“I just kind of stayed around my starting position for about the first 10 laps and then was able to pick off a few cars and move up several spots,” he said. “A couple more cars dropped out and we finished 14th. I think about 10 of us got lapped in the first six to eight laps as Kyle Larson and Aaron Reutzel were flying. I didn’t take many chances and we were able run all the laps and roll the car into the trailer at the end of the night.

“Joliet was definitely the biggest track we’ve raced on. They say it’s a 3/8 mile, but I think it’s more like a half mile. It was certainly the fastest I’ve ever gone on a race track so it took a little time getting used to the speed with the other cars around me.”

Schuett is looking forward to more familiar surroundings this Saturday at Fairbury Speedway in Fairbury, Ill., with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series and the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series.

“It will be nice to get back to a track where I’ve raced before, although it was in a midget and not a sprint car,” he said. “I’m hoping that the high speeds at Joliet will make me a little better at a smaller track like Fairbury.”
