Inside Line Promotions – HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Sept. 24, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi recorded a podium finish at Williams Grove Speedway and a sixth-place run at Hagerstown Speedway to highlight four straight nights of action last weekend.

The busy weekend began on Thursday when Scelzi made his debut at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, Pa., where he qualified fourth quickest out of 26 competitors before placing third in both a heat race and the dash. Scelzi was running fourth late in the Kevin Gobrecht Classic feature when a crash resulted in a DNF.

“We were fast on Thursday,” he said. “The curb was pretty gnarly so if you got over it you were in trouble. I got over the cushion, pushed and went into the fence. We had to rebuild a car on Friday so it was a tough start to the weekend.”

The incident didn’t slow down Scelzi and car owner Bernie Stuebgen on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where the team kicked off three straight Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions races by setting quick time during qualifying out of the 37 drivers.

Scelzi then advanced from fourth to third in a heat race before he won a dash to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“That’s a place I’ve been comfortable at from the start,” he said. “The track went rubber down pretty quick in turns three and four. In turns one and two you could run the top or bottom. It was a game of who was brave enough to get out of the rubber to try to make a pass. I ran third most of the race and then fell to fourth, but I passed James (McFadden) with two laps to go when he tried the top and got out of the rubber. It was a good rebound to be on the podium.”

The late-race pass secured a third-place finish for Scelzi.

Scelzi visited Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., on Saturday for the Dirt Classic. He timed in 16th quickest before posting results of fourth and ninth in twin heat races. Scelzi ended the night fifth in the B Main, which was only one spot shy of transferring into the A Main.

“I ran fourth the first half of the race, but I made the wrong decision on a restart,” he said. “I went to the top and Brandon Rahmer got underneath me and that was it.”

Scelzi wrapped up the weekend with another great rebound on Sunday at Hagerstown Speedway, where he made his debut. He qualified fourth quickest out of 31 drivers, finished third in a heat race and advanced from third to second in a dash. The night concluded with a sixth-place finish in the feature.

“It was a gnarly race track, but a cool setting,” he said. “We had a good heat and good dash. I picked the wrong lane on restarts in the feature and didn’t get going fast enough. The cushion was too high and was dusty. It started taking rubber. It became a line to slide yourself in turns three and four. It was a learning experience and we got a good result out of it.”

Scelzi is scheduled to head to Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday for the BeFour the Crowns Showdown with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and on Saturday for the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions season finale before the weekend ends on Sunday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., with the FAST Series.

“I’m looking forward to both tracks,” he said. “I had a decent run at Eldora the last two nights of the Kings Royal in July. And Kokomo seems like a great place from what I’ve heard and from videos I’ve seen.”
