Inside Line Promotions – PARK CITY, Kan. (June 9, 2020) – Brian Brown captured his first feature triumph of the season last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
It marked his 50th career victory in the 410ci winged sprint car division at the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa. Brown is now tied with Sammy Swindell for fifth in career 410 wins at the track.
The weekend concluded on Sunday when Brown earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars during the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions main event.
June 6 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – Qualifying: 5; Heat race: 1 (5); Feature: 1 (2).
“With the schedule being slowed down this year it’s good to get the first one out of the way,” Brown said. “It’s good to get back to Knoxville and back to the basics. To be honest when you have a bad night it can turn into a bad weekend and that can turn into a bad month. As a driver you start questioning is it my driving or whatnot. The attitudes of Chad, Nate and dad never wavered. They were always positive and knew we just had a couple of bad weeks and you’ll have that from time to time. Thankfully we always have Knoxville to hit the reset button.
“We laid out a pretty decent time in qualifying when the track slowed down. Then we were able to win our heat from fifth. I knew the start would be important for the feature. We got out front right away and we got through traffic okay. We found the rubber when we needed to move down. The track was one of the trickier ones Knoxville has had. The curb was different heights at different spots. I felt like we went through it pretty good. It was great to get our 50th win at Knoxville.”
June 7 – 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan. – Qualifying: 21; Heat race: 6 (7); Feature: 9 (17).
“It was great being able to run with an awesome series with the All Stars,” Brown said. “We didn’t qualify well, but Chad, Nate and dad kept working on it. We got our car better in the feature and we were able to go 17th to ninth. I felt we could have gained even more positions if it hadn’t laid rubber.”
UP NEXT – Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the Brownells Big Guns Bash with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series
“Every single time I go to Knoxville I feel like I’m a contender because our package is so solid,” Brown said. “Hopefully we get qualified well and will be in contention for a top five.”
