Cisney Charges to Career-Best All Star Run During Tuscarora 50

Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2020) – Dylan Cisney produced his career-best Tuscarora 50 performance last weekend during the famed event at his home track.
Port Royal Speedway hosted the three-day Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 event, in which Cisney recorded a pair of top-five finishes. His third-place run during Saturday’s finale was the best outing of his career in the marquee event as well as his top result with the All Stars.
The event started on Thursday when Cisney qualified 31st quickest and finished where he started – seventh – in a heat race. He then rallied from 12th to sixth place in the B Main to narrowly miss a transfer into the main event. Cisney was awarded a provisional and he made the most of it, charging from 25th to 12th – the third-most positions gained.
“On Thursday it was a different track and threw everyone off,” he said. “It had been slick all year and we got a fast track. Thursday was tough. It was fast the whole time. Even through the feature it was pretty much wide open the whole time. For taking a provisional, that’s about as good as you can ask for.”
Cisney continued to improve on Friday, timing in 14th quickest and fourth in his group to garner the pole position in a heat race. He won the heat to lock into a dash. A fifth-place finish in the dash lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the A Main.
“We really took off better at the beginning of the race than I thought we were going to,” he said. “Even starting 10th the best cars are right there. I was hoping to hang in there and pass a couple of cars and get a solid top 10. We took right off on the start and before halfway we were up to fourth. Then the straps broke on the rear of the nose wing and let the nose wing fall back. It was catching a bunch of air. That was right before halfway once we got into fourth. If that hadn’t happened we would have been right there for that win.”
Cisney hung on for the fourth-place finish despite the struggle toward the end of the race.
“That was huge,” he said. “Myself and the team felt great all day Saturday. That was the best we’ve done on the Night Before the 50. It’s tough to go into any big races second guessing anything. To get through it with a good night and not have any problems with anything other than our nose wing issue was huge.”
Saturday’s event finale also started on the right foot for Cisney, who qualified 25th quickest overall and made the heat race inversion in his group. Once again he won a heat race from the pole to make the feature redraw. Cisney pulled the No. 5 to line up on the inside of the third row for the 50-lap race.
“I was hoping to maintain the first half,” he said. “The track was still pretty fast up on the fence. The B Main and non-qualifier races helped slow it down and widen it out. It was really a guessing game for what you wanted to do with your car. We knew you’ll probably have to be a little tight at the beginning to be there at the end and just suffer through it. The goal was to maintain, save your tires and be in a position to have a chance at it the last 25 laps.
“I felt like we kept getting better and better the entire race. I think me, Anthony (Macri) and Lance (Dewease) were all pretty even. If I could have got by Macri on the last restart and stayed clear of him we might have had a shot to do something with Lance, but it would have been tough in clean air. Every lap of the race our car kept getting better and better and I could run it harder than before.”
Cisney climbed to third and he battled with Macri for the runner-up position for several laps in the closing stage before settling for the third-place performance.
“It’s right up there,” Cisney said. “It’s not a win, but it’s the best we’ve ever done in a big race like that. It’s our best finish in an All Star race. It’s really huge for me and my whole team, giving us a lot of momentum going into big events coming up.”
Cisney plans on racing this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., during the Jack Gunn Memorial and Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., during the Dirt Classic with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.
