Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires commences Friday at Attica

$12,000 points fund and Tony Stewart Store Victory Bonus up for grabs

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 8, 2022) - The 40th edition of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires is ready to roll, launching Friday night, June 10, with the $6,000-to-win Bert and Brigitte Emick Classic at Attica Raceway Park.

Battling head-to-head with Ohio’s finest, as well as a stout contingent of regional and national talent, the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will face-off on nine straight days at eight different facilities, chasing a total winner’s share reaching $72,554. In addition, a $12,000 Ohio Sprint Speedweek points fund will be spread among the top-five in the final Speedweek standings; $5,000 awarded to the champion and $2,500, $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000 awarded to second through fifth, respectively.

On behalf of Tony Stewart Store, a victory bonus will also be up for grabs during Ohio Sprint Speedweek: if a driver wins three or more events, an extra $1,000 will be awarded per win.

Once action at Attica Raceway Park is complete, Ohio Sprint Speedweek will continue with a doubleheader at the “Track That Action Built,” Fremont Speedway on Saturday and Sunday, June 11-12. Awarding a combined $16,000, Saturday’s visit will award a $10,000 share, with Sunday’s Chuck and Shirley Kear Classic awarding $6,000. Including the Speedweek double, the traveling All Stars will visit Fremont on four occasions in 2022 with the second pair concluding the 2022 schedule on October 7-8.

In traditional back-to-back fashion, Ohio Sprint Speedweek will move east and invade Wayne County Speedway and Sharon Speedway on Monday and Tuesday, June 13-14, respectively. The northeast Ohio venues, each awarding $6,000 during Speedweek action, hosted All Star competition on one occasion already in 2022. “Hunter Percent” Hunter Schuerenberg was the victor at Wayne County with Lane Racing’s Cap Henry stealing the show at Sharon, utilizing a last corner pass to secure the Buckeye Cup title over Myerstown, Pennsylvania’s Brent Marks.

The recently invaded Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, topped by Lockbourne’s Cole Duncan, will host a $6,000-to-win Ohio Sprint Speedweek stop on Wednesday, June 15, followed by $6,000 programs at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Thursday, June 16, and Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday, June 17. The All Star Circuit of Champions will conclude the 40th edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek with Portsmouth Raceway Park’s highly sought after Dean Knittel Memorial on Saturday, June 18.

Awarding a top prize of $20,554, the Dean Knittel Memorial is not only the highest paying program on the Speedweek schedule, but it’s one of the highest paying programs on the entire All Star slate, trumped only by Lernerville’s $25,000-to-win Silver Cup, I-70 Speedway’s $26,000-to-win Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race, Port Royal Speedway’s $29,000-to-win Bob Weikert Memorial, and Port Royal Speedway’s $55,000-to-win Tuscarora 50.

Open wheel veteran and Nashville native, Paul McMahan is the reigning Dean Knittel Memorial champion at Portsmouth, leading the final circuit for a $17,554 payday. An exciting finish, nonetheless, McMahan stole the show when race leader Danny Dietrich ran out of fuel on the white flag lap, allowing the ace of the CJB Motorsports entry to drive by and clinch the Speedweek finale.

Defending All Star champion and current Series point leader, “Sunshine” Tyler Courtney will lead the All Star charge in the Buckeye State, holding down the title chase over Buch Motorsports’ Justin Peck and Vermeer Motorsports’ Hunter Schuerenberg. Courtney is a three-time winner in 2022 with two occurring at Attica Raceway Park in back-to-back fashion. The driver of the Clauson Marshall Racing No. 7BC is also the defending Ohio Sprint Speedweek champion, securing the first-ever title over Pennsylvania invader, Danny Dietrich.

Parker Price-Miller, a back-to-back Dixie Fast Timer during recent stops at Attica and Atomic, is currently fourth in the All Star title chase, followed by Cap Henry and Angola, Indiana’s Zeb Wise. The “North Pole Nightmare” Bill Balog is seventh in the standings, followed by Cory Eliason, Kyle Reinhardt, and Chris Windom. Brandon Spithaler, a dash winner and A-Main pole sitter during All Star action at Wayne County Speedway on May 14, will continue his tenure for full-time team Bryan Grove Racing during Ohio Sprint Speedweek.

National Sprint Car Hall of Famer and Hartford, Ohio-native, Dale Blaney is the all-time leading champion of Ohio Sprint Speedweek, scoring a total of six titles between 1995 and 2019, three of which accomplished in four years. Other multi-time Ohio Sprint Speedweek champions include Frankie Kerr (4), Tim Shaffer (3), Stevie Smith (2), Sammy Swindell (2), Joey Saldana (2), and Chad Kemenah (2).
