Balog Captures Top Ten Finish & Leads All Star Circuit of Champions at Tuscarora 50
Hartland, Wisconsin (September 14th, 2022) – The Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 had a three-day swing at ‘The Speed Palace’ Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania, September 8th-10th. The three nights of racing in Posse territory capped off with a 50 lap, $60,000 to win finale on Saturday night!
The famed Tuscarora 50 weekend averaged a car count of 50+ drivers. Balog started the three day swing strong on Thursday night qualifying 2nd in his group (6th overall) earning him the pole of his Heat Race. The driver of the Anderson’s Pure Maple Syrup 17B went on to capture a Heat Race win landing a spot in the Dash re-draw! Balog drew the pole of the Dash and picked up a win! The North Pole Nightmare eventually finished 11th in the 30-lap feature after leading the opening 7 laps.
Friday night proved to be a more challenging night for the team. After missing the invert in qualifying; Bill finished 6th in his Heat Race which sent him to the B-Main. Bill started 8th in the B-main and missed the transfer, ultimately using a provisional to start the 30 lap “Night before the Tusky” Feature. With a 28-car feature starting field, Bill brought home an 18th place finish after visiting the work area for a shredded right rear tire.
Balog and team were determined to turn things around on Saturday night for the coveted $60,000 to Win Tuscarora 50. The field maxed out for the week with 55 cars signed in! Bill qualified 16th overall and earned the pole of Heat Race #1. With a stout lineup alongside him, the North Pole Nightmare rallied to a heat race win earning one of six spots in the Feature Re-draw. Bill started the 50 lap Feature in 3rd place. The first half of the race was challenging for Balog to maintain position but he found his groove after the designated Open Red (halfway point). Balog brought home a 10th place finish and ultimately was the top finishing All-Star Circuit of Champions driver.
“In the end, with the starting positions we had, we would have liked to do better in the features. It was nice to pick up a couple heat race wins and a dash to at least get us in the positions we wanted to be. We still have some work to do to maintain those front row spots for 50 laps”. Said Balog driver of the 17B.
Upcoming Racing Schedule
The All-Star Circuit of Champions will return to Pennsylvania this weekend for a $7,000 to Win Dirt Cup Qualifier at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, 9/16. The Series will head to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night for the $20,000 to Win Dirt Cup Classic.
