ASCS Gulf South Region to Honor Fallen Friends at Battleground

TULSA, Okla. (March 28, 2014) - The Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region picks up their season as the high-banked Battleground Speedway for a double header weekend on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.

The weekend will be dedicated to a pair of individuals who the racing community recently lost.

Friday night's $2,000 to win event will be held in honor of Jay Nidever. Born on August 17, 1944, Jay left this earth on March 10, 2014. He began his racing career as a crew member for Randy Lewis, before moving to competing in Texas Super Sprinters, driving the pink No.32, nicknamed named "Pinky". Following his time behind the wheel, Jay moved on to crew for Brandon Berryman Motorsports. Jay also served in the United States Armed Forces for 38 years, including two tours in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

Losing his life on March 24, 2014 at the young age of 27, El Paso, Texas native Patrick Silva will be honored during Saturday $2,500 to win affair. Joining with Josh Baughman Racing at the start of 2014, it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of Silva's to work full time in Motorsports. Silva began in the desert ovals around west Texas and Southern New Mexico, working for friends like John Carney II and Casey Minks among others before finally working his way up to the Baughman's crew. Patrick will be laid to rest in his home town of El Paso, Texas.

Events at the Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas will begin both days at 7:00 P.M. (CT) with a $500 bonus up for grabs in any driver can sweep the weekend. Support Classes will include Eco Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Limited Modifieds, and Dwarf Cars. The Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region has seen one night of competition in 2014. Jon Agan leads the regional standings with Seth Bergman, Greg Wilson, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Christopher Bell making up the top five in driver standings.
