Victory Highlights Memorial Day Weekend for Blake Hahn

SAPULPA, Okla. (May 27, 2014) - Blake Hahn spent the Memorial Day Weekend racing across the state of Texas with the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region and experienced the highest thrill of victory, as well as the agony of defeat, having to saw the front of his car off to even make it into the trailer.

Starting Friday, May 23 at the Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, the Old School Racing No. 17 was running runner-up on the high line until contact with Johnny Herrera exiting the second turn sent Hahn head on, inverted, into the wall. The hit was enough to break front clip, resulting in the spare car being put into action.

"I bobbled out of four, and he [Johnny] got a good run going down the front straight-a-way getting into one. If I was in his spot, I would have slid him too," said Hahn of the incident that he ruled as being a part of the trials of racing.

With the second mount in tune, Saturday, May 24 saw action head to the Shady Oak Speedway in Goliad, Texas. Hahn's first visit to the one-third mile oval was a memorable one, as the Sapulpa native shot to the lead on Lap 13 with a high-side pass on Matt Covington exiting turn four and never looked back for his second triumph of the season.

Asked about the pass for the lead, Hahn replied, "I followed Covington for a few laps and figured out I wasn't going to pass him if I didn't start changing my line, so I moved up a little entering three and four. He just made a little mistake exiting four and I was able to get the run."

Questioned about the similarities between the car that was crashed, versus the car that he raced to victory, Hahn explained the cars were setup to be similar, other than small adjustments as the spare car was meant to be a big track car. This made the transition much easier for the crew to get the car ready for the remainder of the weekend.

Rounding things out on Sunday, May 25 at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park, Hahn suffered a bit of bad luck on the start of the feature, spinning to a stop on the start and having to charge from the tail to finish eighth.

"We just have that bad luck at Beaumont it seems. The last couple times I've run there, it seems like something happens with accidents in the first couple laps but I really like the facility. It's racy so it was fun having to race from the back. I'm just glad I was able to get back to where I was supposed to start."

Concerning what caused the No. 17 to spin, Hahn took responsibility saying, "I just got in too hard trying to cheat the cushion."

Up next, Blake will return to competition with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at the Salina Speedway on Friday, May 30 and Eagle Raceway on Saturday, May 31. "I went to Salina last year and really enjoyed it. I ran well there, but I'm looking forward to going to Eagle for the first time because I've always heard its high banked and fun to drive."
