Tankersley One Race From Claiming ASCS Gulf South Championship

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (Sept. 24, 2014) – Channin Tankersley has never won a sprint car championship.

That should change this Saturday when he tackles the ASCS Gulf South Region season finale at Battleground Speedway. Tankersley holds a 101-point lead in the championship standings entering the event.

“We’ve been working hard all year long for the championship,” he said. “The goal has been to stay consistent week in and week out. I believed that if I did that I’d have a real shot at winning the championship.”

According to ASCS rules, Tankersley will earn 50 points for at least making an effort to compete on Saturday even if he doesn’t take a competitive green flag. That would lock up the title even if the driver who is second in the championship standings won the feature.

“We’re going there to win the race,” Tankersley said. “I can breathe a little easier knowing the points situation, but we aren’t going just to show up. I want another win.”

Tankersley, who has one ASCS Gulf South Region win this season, leads the region with nine top fives and 16 top 10s in 19 features this season.

He has also finished in the top six during three of his four races at Battleground Speedway this season.

“We’ve ran well at Battleground this year, but haven’t won there yet,” he said. “That’s my home track so there’d be no better way to close this thing out than by winning the race.”
