Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (March 31, 2015) – Channin Tankersley had a sour start to his season last weekend during an ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader.

Tankersley was caught up in a pair of crashes that resulted in DNFs, including one on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, that snapped a streak of eight straight top 10s at the bullring.

“I think the only other thing we could have done was crash the rig,” he joked. “I’d say it was the roughest opening weekend I’ve ever had. I just put myself in a bad position on Friday night and on Saturday night we got caught up in someone else’s mistake.”

The weekend kicked off on Friday with Tankersley winning his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That locked him into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 5 to line up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“We were really quick right out of the box,” he said. “I just made a mistake going for the lead. I jumped a right rear tire and knocked the front end out. It definitely didn’t end up like I wanted. The biggest thing was I got a little impatient. I’ve tried it 100 times and it worked 90. It just didn’t work out like it did in my head.”

Tankersley was maneuvering around the top of the track in turns three and four during the opening laps when he collided with another car that bobbled, which knocked the front end out of his race car. He was unable to resume the race and was credited with a 19th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Battleground Speedway, where Tankersley won a heat race to lock himself into the feature redraw for the second straight night. This time he pulled the No. 3 in the random redraw to start the feature on the inside of the second row.

Tankersley maintained his position throughout most of the race before another car spun in front of him with a handful of laps remaining.

“I was a solid third-place car,” he said. “I was just too tight. I got caught up in somebody else’s mess with about five laps to go. A lapped car trying to race the leaders wrecked and collected me and Sam Hafertepe Jr. It was just a bad deal all together.”

Tankersley ended with a 10th-place finish.

He is scheduled to return to action on April 17 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and April 18 at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
