Tankersley Rallies for First Win of the Season During Inaugural Mod Lite Race

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (June 23, 2015) – Channin Tankersley took advantage of last weekend’s ASCS Gulf South Region rainouts by making his mod lite debut.

“A friend of mine asked if I wanted to run it at like noon on Saturday,” he said. “We got it over there and dusted the cobwebs off it. It was something to go have fun with.”

Tankersley did just that as he advanced from fourth to second place during a heat race at Battleground Speedway on Saturday. That locked him into the fourth starting position for the main event.

“I spun out on the first lap and went to the back,” he said. “I think I restarted around 15th and I came back and got the lead with about five laps to go. It was like driving a dump truck. It was a lot of work. I never realized how hard they were to race.”

The win was Tankersley’s first of the season and added momentum as he returns to sprint car racing this Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

“I’m pretty fired up because I like both tracks,” he said. “I’ve had pretty decent success at both tracks. I ran well at a couple of ASCS National Tour shows we had at Lone Star a couple of years ago. They are both on my top-five tracks in Texas that I like.”

Tankersley, the defending series champion, ranks sixth in the championship standings heading into this weekend. Eight of the 13 scheduled ASCS Gulf South Region races have been rained out this year and there are only 10 remaining on the slate.

“If we can get on a roll we’ll be fine,” he said. “If we do have another off night we’re pretty much done having a shot to win another championship.”
