Inside Line Promotions – GOLIAD, Texas (July 28, 2015) – Two is the common number for Channin Tankersley, who used a pair of second-place results during the Shady Oaks Classic last weekend to move within two points of the ASCS Gulf South Region championship lead.

“We’ve worked hard to get here,” he said. “It’s nice whenever you have a little luck on your side now and again. We had a pretty fast car all weekend. It’s crazy how one weekend can turn everything around. We had a shot to win both nights, too.”

Tankersley kicked off the doubleheader at Shady Oaks Speedway last Friday when he maneuvered from fourth to second place during a heat race. That earned him enough points to advance into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 6 during the random redraw to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“I got to third pretty much instantly,” he said. “Then it took me about five laps to get to second. We had a restart on Lap 4 or 5 and I got to second then. Ray Allen Kulhanek started on the front and ran a real clean race. I got beside him a handful of times, but he had all the momentum. He was running around the top in turn one and I was around the bottom. I could get beside him, but he’d have the momentum going into turn three, where the groove was the bottom.”

Tankersley spent a majority of the race battling for the lead before he ended second, which locked him into Saturday’s feature redraw as one of the top four finishers. Tankersley opened Saturday’s event by drawing the No. 1 during the feature redraw to garner the pole position for the main event.

“The outside polesitter got me on the start,” he said. “I could get beside him, but he had a little more momentum. It was just enough where I couldn’t clear him.”

Just like the night before Tankersley spent the feature trying to find a way around the leader, who stayed in the preferred line, before posting a second-place result.

“For the most part I had a pretty good weekend,” he said. “I can’t complain too much with two seconds. It was a good, consistent weekend.”

Tankersley is scheduled to take the next couple of weeks off before the ASCS Gulf South returns to competition on Aug. 21 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Aug. 22 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas.
