ASCS Gulf South vs. ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints This Weekend At Mississippi’s Jackson Motor Speedway
TULSA, Okla. (April 4, 2016) Pitting the very best Sprint Car drivers in the Southeast against the veterans of the Gulf South, the inaugural “King of the Wings” is set to go down at the Jackson Motor Speedway, located just outside Jackson, Miss in Byram.
Featuring the Lucas Oil ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints and the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region presented by Southern Trailer Works, this Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 will be the first time the two ASCS series have squared off.
The first time the Mississippi oval has seen ASCS action since July 2, 2011, the last visit with the ASCS Gulf South Region saw Marshall Skinner grabbing the win. Overall, four ASCS sanctioned events have been held at the Jackson Motor Speedway.
Friday’s program will feature a $2,000 to win A-Feature with Saturday offering up a $3,000 winner’s purse. As a two day show with the ASCS Gulf South Region, Challenger Drilling and Cooper Motorsports will put a $1,000 bonus on the line to any driver who can sweep the weekend.
Joining the ASCS lineup in 2016, the Lucas Oil Southern Outlaw Sprints began their year on March 5 and March 6 at the Hattiesburg Speedway and Deep South Speedway with Seth Bergman and Brian Bell each picking up wins.
Seth holds the series lead over Derek Hagar with Terry Gray, Marshall Skinner, and Matt Covington making up the top-five. Brandon Hanks, Brian Bell, Michael Miller, Timmy Thrash, and Kyle Amerson complete the top-ten.
Three nights into the lineup for the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region 15th season of competition, two nights sanctioned with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour went to Brandon Hanks and Josh Baughman, with Aaron Reutzel picking up this past Saturday’s Nolan Wren Memorial at the Gator Motorplex.
Going into the weekend doubleheader, Scottie McDonald has assumed the points lead with a 32 point buffer over Tommy Bryant. Announcing on Sunday that he will run the full ASCS Gulf South Regional schedule, five time champion, Ray Allen Kulhanek, sits third tied with Channin Tankersley. Dustin Gates currently rounds out the top five in tour standings. Travis Rilat, Zane Lawrence, Michael McNeil, Jacob Lucas, and J.J. Simmons round out the top-ten.
Friday, April 8 will include NeSmith Crate Late Models and Street Stocks. Saturday, April 9 will again see the NeSmith Crate Late Models and Street Stocks in action, but will also include Modifieds and Factory Stocks in the lineup. The inaugural “King of the Wings” is presented in part by Krystal’s of Byram, USA Pawn, and Watson Quality Ford.
