Johnson sweeps Willamette Weekend
Bryan Hulbert - Lebanon, Oregon (July 14,2012) After taking the preliminary night victory on Friday, Oklahoma’s Wayne Johnson backed up his performance by sweeping the Lucas Oil ASCS Willamette double header in round No. 2 of the 2012 ASCS Bully Dog Northwest Speedweek presented by Contingency Connection.
Taking the green from the fourth starting position, the City Vending No. 77x would ride into third before the red flag waved on lap eight for the 99d of Shawn Wright.
Taking the lead from the green, Travis Rilat would begin pulling away to a straight-a-way advantage as the battle for the runner up spot saw Mitch Olson and Wayne Johnson begin their run into slower traffic.
With the pursuit slicing in and out of the back of the field, Johnson would take over the runner up spot on lap fourteen.
Running down Rilat with less than ten laps to run, the Missile Motorsports No. 77x would pick up car lengths per lap on the No. 39c. Taking the white flag with a full head of steam, the City Vending No. 77x would dive for the slide job on Rilat’s 39c.
Clearing for the lead, the red would soon fly as Rilat hooked the cushion exiting turn two, causing the Xtreme Oilfield Technology No. 39c to go over.
Restarting for a two lap dash to the finish, Wayne Johnson would lead series rival Jason Johnson to the green.
Running into turn one Mitch Olson would steal away second with Johnny Herrera in tow. Taking the white flag, Wayne Johnson would go unchallenged to the checkered flag. Mitch Olson and Johnny Herrera would round out the podium. Jason Johnson would salvage fourth with Brady Bacon rounding out the top five.
Brad Loyet would cross the stripe sixth with Logan Forler charging from seventeenth to seventh. Earning the PitstopUSA.com Hard Charger award, Henry VanDam gained eleven spots to take eighth with Tony Bruce Jr. and Roger Crockett completing the top ten.
