VICTORIOUS AGAIN: Steven Richardson Capitalizes on Restart to Win at SaltCity Racing

Hutchinson, Kan 7/20/2024 (www.urssracing.com) - If one driver could have more ups and downs in the length of a season, Steven Richardson will probably be the first in line for show and tell.

What started to shape up as a good showing for the “0-Show” during Speedweeks quickly turned to disaster over the span of four nights. Heading into Hutchinson this weekend, it was all survival mode.

With Heat race action ran on Friday evening, the top 8 drivers in passing points made the redraw for the main event. Ty Williams and Steven Richardson had the lucky hands, and the field was set for 20 laps.

At the green flag, Ty Williams #911, (Arcadia, Ok), quickly gained the lead out of turn 2. As the field separated over the opening laps, Steven Richardson was starting to search around the track for any type of speed.

As the leaders started to pick their way through traffic, TJ Kleyman #21K, (Sedgwick, Kan), lost control of his car in front of the leaders, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic.

On the restart, Ty Williams was lights out heading into the backstretch. Richardson wasn’t done yet. Continuing to search higher up the track, the #0 of Richardson started to gain ground on Williams. Coming out of turn two, Charlee Chaffin #8x, (Cimmaron, Kan), attempted to take her car off the track, but as the leaders made their way into turn one, officials determined the track was not clear to continue.

The theme of the season has been timely cautions and perfectly crafted restarts, and for Steven Richardson #0, (Liberal, Kan), that was just what the doctor ordered. Coming to the restart, Richardson was able to time the start with Ty Williams, and as they came to speed down the long straightaway, Richardson made the move to the inside of Williams.

Ty Williams battled back on the top side heading into turn three, but Richardson had the momentum built up and was smooth sailing from there. “Ty and all these guys are really fast” Steven Richardson said post race. “I knew on that restart I’d have to be close to him and he was running a car length up from where I was running and I knew the lane I was running started to come in” he added.

With the win at the historic half-mile, Steven Richardson now becomes the 8th winningest driver with the United Rebel Sprint Series Tour at 17 wins.

The series’s next stop will be at the Dodge City Raceway Park for the Jerry Soderburg Memorial on July 27th.
