Inside Line Promotions – ACACIA RIDGE, Queensland, Australia (Jan. 10, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi is focused on improving his qualifying results entering a marquee event this weekend.

Scelzi and the Wormall Motorsport team are slated to compete on Friday and Saturday at Valvoline Raceway in Clyde, New South Wales, Australia, for the Scott Darley Challenge.

“It’s a track I really enjoy racing at and it’s a big event so I’m excited,” he said. “I set quick time and won my heat race to earn the pole for last year’s finale. We battled for the lead the first half of the race before I had a tire start to go down. It ended up blowing on the last lap and we had a DNF, but that night gave me a lot of confidence running at that track. Hopefully we can start out strong with a good qualifying run this weekend.”

Scelzi is coming off a busy week of action at Archerfield Speedway, where he competed in a trio of events. The racing began on Jan. 3 when he qualified 17th quickest in his group. Scelzi maneuvered from third to win a heat race before advancing from fourth to second place in the second heat. A fifth-place finish in the B Main transferred Scelzi into the back of the main event.

“We were able to charge from 19th to 14th in the A Main,” he said. “We were good most of the night, but just were buried too deep from qualifying. That seemed like the story of our week.”

Scelzi returned to Archerfield Speedway last Friday to kick off the two-day Australian Open, which he began by timing in 20th quickest in his group. He won both heat races and powered from 10th to third place in the B Main to lock into the A Main. Scelzi then rallied from 17th to 13th in the main event.

The event wrapped up on Saturday with Scelzi maneuvering from fifth to third place in his first heat race and from sixth to second place in his second heat. That locked him into the 12th starting position for the main event.

Scelzi battled for a top 10 throughout the race before finishing where he started.

“We didn’t get the final result we wanted, but the whole Wormall Motorsport team worked hard all week,” he said. “I’m grateful for their dedication and support, and I can’t wait for us to tackle the Scott Darley Challenge this weekend.”
