Jordan Poirier Picks Up Empire Super Sprints Win at Drummond

By Curtis Berleue (Drummondville, QC) | After years of trying, Jordan Poirier is finally an Empire Super Sprints winner in his home province of Quebec. The two time and defending champion has been close to a win in Quebec multiple times, and on Saturday night all of the stars aligned for Poirier as he picked up $3,000 for his efforts.

Bryan Cloutier was the Pinnacle Pole Award winner, and as such brought the field to green alongside of Alex Bergeron. Cloutier jumped out to the early lead and paced the field for the first eleven laps.

Behind Cloutier, Bergeron was holding steady in second with Logan Crisafulli in third, having a solid run for the second night in a row.

Quebec native and current points leader Jordan Poirier started in fifth and had slowly been picking off cars, moving into the top three on lap 6, and then getting by Bergeron for second on lap 7.

By lap 11, Poirier had the lead and never looked back, crossing the line first and picking up his first ESS win in his native province of Quebec.

“Tonight was somewhat of a dream,” said Poirier. “Tonight, everything was just going our way. We had a really good car at the beginning, felt good and that restart we were able to just get away.”

“It was so good to win in front of a crazy crowd like that.”

Logan Crisafulli came home second, a career best ESS finish for him.

“We found our way up, the engine wasn’t right the whole night,” said Crisafulli. “I just tried to keep going and going, and luckily is lasted the whole race.”

Shawn Donath rounded out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium in third.

“Solid finish again tonight, third from seventh – the car was fast,” said Donath. “The 21 car changed his line the last lap, which helped us. Overall the car was great. We were good last night and then it broke. Tonight we were able to pick up where we left off.”

The field was split into three timed hot lap groups at the beginning of the night, with Jordan Poirier, Matt Tanner and Joe Trenca earning Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards. E&V Heat races were won by Jordan Porier, Alex Therrien and Joe Trenca.

Before the A-Main, Autodrome Drummond honored 8-time ESS Champion Steve Porier for his accomplishments in both a modified and sprint car. In addition to being tied for the most ESS Championships, Poirier is also the winningest driver in tour history with 77 wins.

Saturdays event at Drummond was the final event of the Coffrage 4 Saisons Canada Tour. Jordan Poirier is the 2024 tour champion.

The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is this coming Friday August 30th at the Brewerton Speedway in Brewerton, NY where the tour will kick off a Labor Day weekend triple header. Saturday, the tour moves to the Fulton Speedway just up the road in Futon, NY and on Sunday the weekend concludes at the Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, NY.
