Alex Pokorski mounts stirring charge to equal career-best Plymouth 360 Sprint car run

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 6, 2021 – Two weeks after storming from 21st to 11th in recording his career-best 360 Sprint Car main-event finish at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis, second-year driver Alex Pokorski did one better by advancing 11 spots in PDTR 360 Sprint Car action to equal a personal-record 11th place A-main effort as part of a special Road America NASCAR Weekend Kickoff event on Thursday, July 1.

Pokorski was among 30 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers to sign in for the all-Sprint Car program, which also included the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and was contested before the largest crowd of the 2021 season at Plymouth.

After lining up sixth in the first PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski dropped to seventh on the opening lap on the lighting fast and tricky track surface, which is where he finished the race.

Pokorski then rolled off ninth in the 15-lap B main needing to finish in the top six to earn a berth in the A-main field. After a red flag on the opening lap for a flip involving Katelyn Krebsbach, Pokorski started eighth following a complete restart.

The West Bend driver used the outside groove to power around Chris Clayton and Bill Taylor to take the sixth-place A-main transfer position on lap 3. Over the final 12 laps, Pokorski engaged in a heated duel with Kevin Karnitz as he tried both the high and low groove to gain the spot.

However, Karnitz turned back each of Pokorski’s challenges as he crossed the finish line sixth to gain a transfer spot to the 25-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main.

After starting 22nd in the main event, Pokorski rode the outside groove to 18th on lap 3. Following a caution flag on lap 18 for a spin involving Will Gerrits, Pokorski restarted 16th.

By lap 20, Pokorski moved up to 15th before another red flag appeared on lap 24 for a flip involving Austin Hartmann. Pokorski restarted 13th and powered around two more cars on the final green, white, checkered flag restart to cross the finish line with a career-best 11th-place A-main finish in a race won by Travis Arenz.

While heat races have proved to be challenging for the sophomore 360 Sprint Car driver, Pokorski has been on a roll in his last two nights in the No. 4 car passing a grand total of 31 cars in B main and A main competition on Saturday, June 19 and Thursday, July 1.

“We had a very similar night to last time I was in the car at Plymouth,” Pokorski said. “It always feels good to be passing cars and moving forward. Hopefully, we can crack that top 10 soon. We still have to figure out our car for the heat races, but our adjustments for the B main and A main worked well.

“The car felt much better and I had much more freedom to run where I wanted to on the racing surface in both the B main and A main,” he said.
“The track was heavy and had lots of rough spots. I had fun racing on it because it requires you to have a high level of control and trust in your car.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is scheduled to return to action at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 10 with Alex Pokorski scheduled to be in the driver’s seat for a PDTR program, which will featured 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Grand Nationals and B Mods.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.
