HUNT AND RAMOS RESUME POINTS BATTLE AS USAC RETURNS TO MADERA
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (August 5, 2010) – USAC Amsoil Western Sprint Car Series action returns to Madera Speedway for the first time in 2010, as Tony Hunt leads the points standings in his #56 Metal Works entry over the exciting rookie Luis Ramos III.
A solid field of USAC Western Sprint drivers is expected to be in action on Saturday’s “Super Saturday” which will also include racing from the SMRA Super Modifieds on the card. The Kenny Shepherd-promoted one-third mile asphalt oval is located just north of Fresno, Calif.
In four series events at Madera in 2009, series champion Tanner Swanson of nearby Kingsburg claimed two victories. Tanner’s brother, and former champion, Kody Swanson had a win along with Rohnert Park’s JoJo Helberg.
Kody will not compete with the Western Sprints but instead compete in the SMRA Super Modified race.
Tanner Swanson will join the field at Madera Speedway, piloting the #15 Harvest Supply mount that scored a win at Stockton with Kody behind the wheel.
Hunt is looking to rebound from a 14th place effort in Utah. Clovis’ Ramos finished third in Utah to lead the Western contingent, moving him within 45 points of Hunt in the series championship. Ramos is looking for his second feature win of 2010 driving the Kaplan-Genoso Racing #21.
Helberg will be in action driving the black #3F sprinter for Ted Finkenbinder. Other drivers expected to compete are #94 Gordon Rogers, #68 Marvin Mitchell, Modesto’s Jimmy Riddell in the #19 Hornet Sprint Cars entry, and Alamo’s Scott Pierovich in the #14 Ken Pierson-owned mount.
Heat races are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday night with the main event scheduled for approx. 8:45. Race fans can learn more about Madera Speedway at www.racemadera.com
