The biggest Street Stock race in the state of Oregon made its way back to the Sunset Speedway Park on Saturday August 10th for the annual Jim’s Thriftway 100. The Northwest Wingless Tour and Northwest Extreme Modifieds would also be on the card as support classes. The night would provide some exciting action with a very well prepared race track.

For the main event Mark Ward, owner of Jim’s Thriftway, would throw the green flag to begin the one-hundred lap endeavor for the Street Stocks. Starting up front Craig Loomis from Vancouver, Washington, in his Buz's Equipment Trailers/City Sprint Delivery/Liberty Welding #01 Camaro, would take control of the lead. Loomis would lead the entire distance of the first fifty laps before the field was brought to a halt allowing teams to refuel their machines to finish the rest of the distance.

In second half Loomis would lose the lead on lap sixty-nine to the Liberty Welding/All American Classics #96 of Danny O’Neil also from Vancouver, Washington. O’Neil would lead until Loomis would get back around him late on lap ninety-two. Loomis would hold on the rest of the way to win his first ever Jim’s Thriftway 100 and his fourth race of the campaign.

Danny O’Neil would finish in second and would be the last car on the lead lap while third would go to the #3 of Earl Claypool from Hillsboro after starting twentieth. The top five would be completed with Tony Catalano from Forest Grove in fourth driving his #19 Monte Carlo and fifth went to the #44S Camaro of Kristi Somers from Woodland, Washington.

The Northwest Wingless Tour was back in the swing of things since ending the Non-Wing Speedway on July 27th at Willamette Speedway. Starting up front and taking full advantage of it Bill Winsley, driving his Wilson’s Napa Auto Parts/Pepco Designs/Jasper’s Café #10W XXX, would take the lead. Not only would he take the lead but the Molalla driver would also earn his second win of the season and earned his fourth career NWWT triumph at SSP. Winsley also has a narrow two point lead headed into the next race.

Putting up a valiant effort and nearly catching Winsley but running out of laps would be Rob Lindsey from Wilsonville in the Maxline Cases/Speedmart Inc./Competition Suspension Inc. #23 XXX in second followed by the Schram Brothers Excavating/BDR Racing #19 Avenger of Ryan Bothwell from Oregon City in third. Jake Gilman of Forest Grove would end his evening in fourth in his Maverick Welding Supply #11X Maxim while the Fuel Injection Enterprises #89 XXX of Sterling Kane, from Albany, completed the top five finishers in fifth.

The Perfection Automotive/Sweere Trucking #18X Rick Graham from Portland had no issues in the Northwest Extreme Modified main event. Graham would earn his seventh win of the year which is simply amazing.

Earning second would be Mike Graham of Vancouver, Washington in the #12X returning to Banks after suffering a major heat attack in 2012. The balance of the top five finishing order would include the Frisbie Motorsports/Discount Race Car Parts/Bodies By CWR #99 of Don Frisbie from Vancouver, Washington in third, Banks’ Joey Tardio in his Transaction Transmissions #04 in fourth, and the #96 of Oscar Luckman from Tigard in fifth.

The Sunset Speedway Park will take next weekend off due to the annual Banks Barbeque festival which will have tractor pulls and combine derbies. The next race at the ¼-mile clay oval will be on Saturday August 24th and will feature the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, and the Womens divisions. This race will feature the best Sprint Car drivers on the Pacific Coast and will be the only opportunity to see the ASCS-Northwest Region so you do not want to miss it.
