Van Raden Wins First Career NWWT Feature At SSP

The Northwest Wingless Tour returned to racing on Saturday August 1st at Sunset Speedway Park. It would be the final visit of the year at the “Banks Bullring” for the series. Fourteen drivers would be in attendance representing the states of Oregon and Washington.
Beaverton's Wayne Van Raden took full advantage of the opening start and managed to get to the front. There he would remain as he mastered the 1/4-mile clay oval. Van Raden would score his first career victory with the Northwest Wingless Tour in his Van Raden Industries #3 entry.
The Alberding Racing #52 Maxim of Tim Alberding from Salem was second followed by Eagle Creek teenager Lindsay Barney piloting the Tony Thomas owned Herz Precision Parts/Wolverine Chassis/Roy Montgomery Trucking/Voitech Motors #1 Eagle in third. The rest of the top five would consist of Tommy Moreno's Moreno Brothers Racing/Van Raden Industries #29 XXX, in fourth, and fifth place finisher was Joe Bosso Jr., of Gresham, in his Western Abrasives/John's Frame Shop/Bud's Auto Wrecking/Western Aircraft Propeller #69 Maxim.
Forest Grove's Jake Gilman was fast time of the night in the Top Coat Powder/Pure Addiction Diesel/Randy Busser Sandblasting #15R Maxim while Lindsay Barney won the trophy dash. Heat race winners were Brad Rhodes from Aloha in his Beaverton Automotive/Pro Towing/Rabourn Performance/Herz Precision Parts #50 Eagle, the Herz Precision Parts/Wolverine Chassis/BC Motorsports #28 entry of Sandy's Mark Herz, and Moro pilot Guy Weedman in the Weedman Ranches #27W Maxim.
The Northwest Wingless Tour is dormant for a few weeks before heading to Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday August 22nd.
