WSS - Wingless Sprint Series
Barney Banks Opener at Madras Speedway
Barney banks the opener at Madras
by Jeremy Means
Eagle Creek native Lindsay Barney is no stranger to victory lane at the Madras Speedway, but this one felt a little different.
Barney would start on the pole but would be anything but smooth sailing, as on the drop of the green flag she would fall back to 3rd. Nate Vaughn would storm to the front and would appear to not look back. As Vaughn would be lapping drivers at a unbelievable pace and would extend his lead to a half track advantage. The first stoppage was on lap 19, unfortunately it was for the leader, as Vaughn would collect with lap traffic sending him on his top and ending his night. On the restart Barney would inherit the lead over Jonathan Jorgenson, those two had been battling fiercely heading into the stoppage. Only one more stoppage would occur, this time as 2nd and 3rd running Jorgenson and Rob Lindsey would collect one another, ending the night for Jorgenson. One last restart for Barney to hold off the field, which she would do with ease. Partially due to intense battle for 2nd between Tim Alberding and Ryan Arnold. Alberding would win the drag race to the line taking 2nd over Arnold. Otto Jorgenson and Tommy Moreno would round out the top 5.
Early heat race winners would include Rob Lindsey, Jonathan Jorgenson, Nate Vaughn, and Tim Alberding. With Vaughn taking trophy dash win.
Our next scheduled event will take place at the Cottage Grove Speedway on May 18.
