13th Annual Jerry Richert Memorial Concludes UMSS Season

For the fifth year in a row, the Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) will be part of the prestigious 13th Annual Jerry Richert, Sr. Memorial at the Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday September 7. The IRA Outlaw 410 sprints will race for a large purse, and the UMSS 360 sprints will also see an increase in their purse on this very special night for sprint car racing here in the Upper Midwest. The winner of the UMSS feature will take home $1,200 with $200 to start and some extra money added to several other finishing positions.

The UMSS will also crown their 2013 Champion at this event, as Chris Graf locked up the title on Monday September 3 at the Granite City Speedway. 2011-2012 UMSS Champion Jerry Richert, Jr. has indicated that he will bring along the UMSS Barry Kettering Memorial Championship Trophy and present it to Chris Graf on Saturday night. A very nice gesture on the part of Richert, one champion to another. For Graf, it would be a stellar way to cap off his championship title with a win on the final night of the UMSS season at the Richert Memorial. However, a solid field of 360 sprints is expected to be on hand with several strong competitors challenging for the top prize. The battle for the runner-up spot in the UMSS season point standings is also very close.

Rick Mastell from Mastell Brothers Racing is donating a top wing that will be randomly drawn for drivers finishing in positions second on back in the UMSS feature race. Winners of each UMSS Challenge Race will receive a $100 gift certificate from DMI. GRP Motorsports will have a $150 Hard Charger Award in the UMSS feature for the driver who advances the most positions from their original starting spot. GRP and several other fine sponsors have also added money into the feature race purse for the UMSS.

Previous UMSS winners at the Richert Memorial include Rob Kubli (2009), Brooke Tatnell (2010 & 2011), and Kaley Gharst (2012). Come on out to the Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday September 7 for what will be a spectacular night of sprint car racing featuring the IRA Outlaw 410 sprints, the UMSS 360 sprints, and the NVRS vintage cars. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 6:00 PM. The IRA typically runs time trials, heats, a B Main and their Feature event while the UMSS runs heats, challenge races and their feature race. This will be the final opportunity to see the UMSS sprints in action for the 2013 season. Sprint car fans will certainly not want to miss this event!
