Action packed USMTS weekend begins for Ramirez
Dereck Ramirez kicked off the four-day stint with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) on Wednesday afternoon at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the Wednesday night Madness. Starting the night off with an 8-lap heat race victory, Ramirez locked into the second-starting position for the main event. Holding his spot for all 40-laps, Dereck notched a runner-up finish behind Tanner Mullens with Ryan Gustin, Dustin Sorensen, and Dustin Hodges rounding out the Top-5.
The following night at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kan.) for the ninth annual Sunflower State Showdown, Dereck scored a runner-up finish in his heat behind Jake O’Neil, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the $2,500-to-win A-Main. Passing five cars in the 40-lap affair, Ramirez posted a seventh place finish.
On Friday evening at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kan.) for the Hummer Hustle, Ramirez secured his spot into the $3,000-to-win A-Main with a second place finish in his heat behind Jake O’Neil. Dropping two positions in the 40-lap feature, Dereck landed a third place finish behind Ryan Gustin and Jake O’Neil with Dustin Sorensen and Jacob Blees completing the Top-5 finishers.
For the final round of the weekend, Dereck traveled to Tri-State Speedway (Pocola, Okla.) but was a scratch from both his heat race and B-Main.
