Ramirez tallies a pair of runner-up finishes at Big O Speedway
After losing Thursday night’s opener to Mother Nature, Dereck Ramirez was one of 39 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries on hand at Big O Speedway (Ennis, Texas) on Friday evening for the 10th annual Texas Spring Nationals. Jumping up one spot in his heat, Ramirez streaked to an 8-lap heat race victory, which positioned him third on the starting grid for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. Returning on Saturday evening for the $3,000-to-win finale, Dereck locked his spot into the A-Main with an 8-lap heat race victory. After jumping out to the race-lead for the first 18 circuits, Ramirez settled with a runner-up spot behind Hunter Marriott with Zack VanderBeek, Jason Hughes, and Rodney Sanders trailing them to the checkers.
Dereck has climbed to third in the latest USMTS National Championship point standings.
