Ramirez competes with USMTS on northern swing

The United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) picked back up on Wednesday afternoon at Casino Speedway (Watertown, S.D.) for the 12th annual Casey’s Summersota Modified Nationals. In a field of 45 cars, Dereck jumped up three spots in his heat race to register a third-place finish. With $5,000 on the line in the feature, Ramirez dropped two positions in the 40-lapper to finish 13th.

To kick off the inaugural Mod Wars on Friday afternoon at Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minn.), Ramirez posted a fifth-place finish in his heat before passing four cars in his B-Main to finish fourth. Weaving through the field 12 spots in the feature, Dereck scored a seventh-place finish.

On Saturday evening, Dereck was forced to a take a provisional into the $10,000-to-win A-Main after failing to qualify in preliminary action. Starting in 23rd, Ramirez marched through the field 15 spots to finish eighth.

For the weekend finale on Sunday at Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa), Ramirez passed five cars in the 40-lap feature to register a sixth-place finish.

Dereck is currently second in the latest USMTS point standings.
