Dereck Ramirez
Pair of Top-10 finishes with USMTS
Dereck kicked off his Memorial day weekend on Friday evening with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) at Rapid Speedway for the 13th annual Rapid Rumble. With a fourth-place finish in his heat race relegating him into the B-Main, Dereck secured his spot into the opening night feature with a runner-up finish behind Tanner Mullens. Starting in 16th, Ramirez clawed forward four spots in the 40-lapper to finish 12th.
The following night at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minn.) for the Spring Challenge, Ramirez posted a second-place finish in his heat behind Rodney Sanders, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. Coming one spot shy of a Top-5 finish, Dereck passed six cars to register a sixth-place finish.
For the USMTS debut to Upper Iowa Speedway (Decorah, Iowa) on Sunday, Dereck locked his spot into the finale with a runner-up finish in his heat race. With $10,000 on the line, Ramirez held his spot for all 40 laps to finish fourth. He trailed Tyler Wolff, Lucas Lee, and Rodney Sanders to the checkers with Jake O’Neil coming in fifth.
Dereck sits a mere three-markers behind Rodney Sanders for the lead in the USMTS point standings.
