Ricky Thornton Jr. Enters USMTS Action at Humboldt
Friday night found Ricky Thornton jr. returning to the seat of his Certified Inspection Service No. 20RT Excel Floor Covering/ D&E Outside Services/ Lethal Chassis Modified for the King of America X at Humboldt (Kans.) Speedway.
With a stout field of 91 United States Modified Touring Series entries registered for the opening night of the doubleheader, Ricky grabbed a heat race win to earn the third starting spot on the feature grid. With $5,000 on the line, Thornton settled to a fifth-place finish in the 50-lapper behind Carlos Ahumada Jr., Terry Phillips, Tanner Mullens, and Rodney Sanders.
The winner’s purse increased to a stellar $20,000 for Saturday’s King of America X finale. After falling just short of transferring from his heat race, Ricky gained four spots in his B-Main to place second. In the 60-lap main event, Thornton came from 17th on the grid to notch a sixth-place outing.
