Sanders scores runner-up finish in King of America X at Humboldt
Friday night saw Rodney Sanders return with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kan.) for the two-day King of America X powered by Summit. In a stout field of 91 cars, Rodney marched forward four spots in his heat race to register a third-place finish. Earning the 12th-starting position for the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature, Sanders improved eight spots in the 50-lapper to place fourth, trailing Carlos Ahumada Jr., Terry Phillips, and Tanner Mullens across the line with Ricky Thornton Jr. coming in fifth. On Saturday night, Sanders secured his spot into the King of America X finale with a 10-lap heat race victory. With $20,000 on the line, Rodney advanced forward from his ninth-starting spot to challenge race-long pacesetter Brooks Strength late in the 60-lapper but came up short to place second behind Strength, with Jake O’Neil, Terry Phillips, and Dereck Ramirez rounding out the Top-5.
Rodney remains third in the latest USMTS point standings.
