Trio of podium finishes in Masters weekend at Cedar Lake
Thursday night found Rodney Sanders in action at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.) to kick off the 22nd annual Masters weekend with the United States Racing Association (USRA). In a stout field of 65 cars, Sanders marched forward seven spots in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. Starting the $3,000-to-win A-Main in second, Rodney held his spot in the 30-lapper to finish second. He trailed Jake Timm to the checkers with Cory Crapser, Lucas Schott, and Dustin Sorensen rounding out the Top-5.
On Friday evening as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) banner, Rodney started the night off with a heat race victory, which positioned him fourth on the starting grid for the show. With $5,000 on the line, Sanders jumped up one spot to register a third place finish. A.J. Diemel and Dereck Ramirez stood atop the podium while Jake O’Neil and Cory Mahder completed the Top-5 finishers.
For the finale on Saturday, Sanders secured his spot into the $10,000-to-win finale with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Lucas Schott. Passing eight cars in the 50-lap affair, Rodney notched a third-place finish. He followed Jake O’Neil and Tanner Mullens across the line with Dereck Ramirez and Jake Timm concluding the Top-5.
Rodney is currently 39-markers behind Dereck Ramirez for the lead in the latest USMTS point standings.
