Sanders begins USMTS northern stretch at Casino Speedway
Venturing north with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), Rodney Sanders trekked to Casino Speedway (Watertown, S.D.) on Wednesday afternoon for the 12th annual Casey’s Summersota Modified Nationals. With 45 cars entered, Sanders posted a second-place finish in his heat race, which placed him eighth on the starting grid for the opening night feature. Coming one spot of a Top-5 finish, Rodney passed two cars to place sixth.
On Friday evening at Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minn.) for the opening round of the inaugural Mod Wars, Rodney secured his spot into the $5,000-to-win A-Main with an eight-lap victory. Clawing forward two spots in the 35-lapper, Sanders posted a third-place finish. He followed Jake O’Neil and Tanner Mullens across the line with Ryan Gierke and Lucas Schott rounding out the Top-5.
For the second round of the Mod Wars on Saturday, Sanders edged his way into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a third-place finish in his heat. Rolling off 12th, Rodney was involved in a multi-car tangle that saw him pull off on lap 24.
On Sunday at Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) for the second annual Mod Mania, Rodney came in second in his heat before racing forward one spot in the 40-lap feature to finish third. He trailed Tanner Mullens and Jake O’Neil to the checkers with Lucas Schott and Dan Ebert completing the Top-5 finishers.
Rodney sits in third in the latest USMTS point standings.
