Inside Line Promotions – ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2016) – Joe Trenca is picking up steam as the season is beginning to wind down.

The Mucci Motorsports driver earned his fifth top five of the season during a strong weekend that produced a pair of top-10 finishes during a Patriot Sprint Tour tripleheader.

The action began last Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., where Trenca won a heat race before placing eighth in the dash. That started him on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We were good and tried something in the dash that didn’t work out,” he said. “In the feature the first start got called back. On the second one we were up to sixth going into turn one and the guy starting on the inside of me completely blasted me. It pushed me over the track and back to 13th. On the next lap I got back to about 10th. First through eighth place were about a straightaway ahead. I caught them, but ran out of laps to make up more ground. It was just bad luck, but that’s racing.”

Trenca finished with an eighth-place result.

He ventured to Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y., on Saturday. Trenca advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race to make the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 2 to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

“We were running second in the feature,” he said. “The leader was right there when about four laps into it we had a parts failure. Going down the backstretch I lost steering so I came to a stop in turn three. Once we got to the work area the crew decided it wasn’t an easy fix so that was it for the night.”

Trenca ended with a DNF, but he bounced back on Sunday at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. Trenca maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race to again qualify for the feature redraw. And once again he got the No. 2 to start on the front row.

“We led the first 10 or 11 laps and Lucas Wolfe got by me,” he said. “I got trapped behind a lapped car. He slid up and I slid over the cushion. It happened in turn one and I couldn’t get back on the track until turn three. We fell to fourth and then they had a caution. I battled back up to second and then two guys got me at the end.”

Trenca scored a fourth-place finish, which was his third top five in the last seven races.

He is slated to take this weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 8 at Fulton Speedway in Fulton, N.Y., with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
