Lincoln/Earl Gaerte Memorial Highlight MOWA Weekend!
(Bill W) August 29, 2012 – The Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) roars back to the track this weekend with an Illinois/Indiana doubleheader that proves to be one of the highlights of the season! On Friday night, the series returns to the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois. History will be made Saturday night, September 1, when the $3,000 to win 1st Annual Earl Gaerte Memorial will be held at the dirt track at the Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana!
In four meetings at Lincoln Speedway there have been four different winners! In 2011, Korey Weyant and AJ Bruns claimed victory. This season, veterans Jimmy Hurley (June 15) and Jerrod Hull (July 6) were winners. Hull leads the point race over Bruns heading into Lincoln. Jim Moughan Jr. and Weyant are tied in a battle for third, ahead of Ben Wagoner.
The series will be making its first visit to Plymouth Speedway. The facility has hosted a handful of open-wheel dirt events this season. Tony Stewart claimed a sprint car victory there on August 18. This will mark MOWA’s first ever appearance in the “Hoosier State”. It will honor legendary engine builder Earl Gaerte. Drivers will be vying for the $3,000 to win prize that includes a 6’ trophy!
Hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow this Friday night at Lincoln! Tickets are just $15, with children 12 and under FREE! For more information, visit www.LincolnSpeedway.org!
