Marcham Expects to Contend for Myrtle Beach Victory
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (November 21, 2013) — After a strong performance in the 2012 Myrtle Beach 400, Trey Marcham is hoping to capitalize on successful performances at Myrtle Beach Speedway and improve on his 2012 result by scoring a victory in Sunday’s race. Marcham had been running up inside the top-10 in the 2012 race, which was run on March 22, 2013, before getting taken out by a lapped car.
Marcham enters the race after winning two races at Myrtle Beach Speedway back on July 4th.
“I definitely feel good,” Marcham said. “We’re always feeling good here. I’ve always been good here, especially after getting two wins in July. I feel pretty confident. The car’s always good here and this track comes natural to me for some reason. It just clicks for me.”
By virtue of his wins, Marcham is locked in to the field and will compete in the Dash for Cash race that will set the starting lineup for the top-12 positions for the 200-lap Late Model feature.
“Every race that we’ve run here, except for the ones in July, we’ve always had to start mid-pack or worse,” Marcham explained. “We’re locked in at least top 12 guaranteed because we’re running the Dash which sets the order so we’re starting up front. It couldn’t get any better. We don’t have to pass so many cars unless something bad happens and I don’t expect that. We’ll take our time in the first half, feel the car out, pass as many cars as we can and try to get away from everyone in the second race.”
Marcham doesn’t feel a change in the race distance will change how he approaches the race, saying he still needs to save tires and take care of his car in the first half of the race and then go for it in the second half of the race.
“Race distance change partially changes strategy,” Marcham stated. “You have to save your tires. That’s the main thing, this track eats tires. You have to be fast without wearing your tires out. 25 less laps on the tires, that’s definitely going to help. You’ll be able to go harder sooner but strategy’s a main thing, you have to ride and still be fast.”
Qualifying for the Myrtle Beach 400 will be on Saturday, November 23rd and the 200-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model feature will be on Sunday, November 24th. RACE22.com will have live coverage of the race.
Trey Marcham has 11 years of experience from NASCAR Late Models, A-Class, Non Wing and Multi class mini-sprints to Midgets. He is currently leading in points for the USAC Western Midget Rookie of the Year award. His goal on the east coast is to compete in the K&N East Series and move onto the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
